De studie includeerde 52 volwassen patiënten met progressief MUM en een ECOG performance status 0 of 1. De mediane leeftijd was 59 jaar (range 26-84); 79% van de patiënten had levermetastasen, en 56% had metastasen buiten de lever. De patiënten kregen viermaal nivo 1 mg/kg plus ipi 3 mg/kg iedere drie weken, gevolgd door nivo 3 mg/kg iedere twee weken tot progressie of toxiciteit. De behandeling resulteerde in ziektecontrole in 63,5% van de patiënten (95%-bti 50,4-76,5). Het primaire eindpunt was overall survival na twaalf maanden. Deze bedroeg 51,9% (95%-bti 38,3-65,5). De mediane OS was 12,7 maanden (95%-bti 7,1-18,3) en de mediane progressievrije overleving was 3,0 maanden (95%-bti 2,0-4,1).
De onderzoekers concluderen dat de combinatie van nivo plus ipi resulteerde in veelbelovende OS van patiënten met niet-eerder behandeld MUM. De toxiciteit was manageable.

Summary: The multicenter phase 2 study GEM-1402 in Spain found promising overall survival results with a manageable toxicity profile of the combination of nivolumab plus ipilimumab for previously untreated metastatic uveal melanoma in patients who were not eligible for liver resection.
