Summary: A secondary analysis of the German multicenter phase 3 trial SUCCESS A showed that in patients with high-risk early-stage breast cancer, presence of CTCs two years after completion of chemotherapy was associated with worse overall survival and disease-free survival (compared to absence of CTCs). Based on these results, individualized active surveillance strategies for breast cancer survivors might have to be reconsidered.
